Trevor Live 2011: An Evening Benefiting the Trevor Project
Several hundred supporters and celebrities attended earlier this evening the 2011 Trevor Live: An Evening Benefiting the Trevor Project event at Capitale in New York City. With guest appearances by Amy Poehler, figure skater Johnny Weir, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Brad Goreski, John Larroquette, CNN’s Don Lemon, Robin Williams, three fantastic Courage Award Recipients and, this year’s Trevor Hero Award Recipient: Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying)
The fantastic P.S. 22 students kicked off the evening with a performance of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” and Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep”, while Amy Poehler kept the ceremony going. Stylist Brad Goreski and Actor Seth Numrich introduced the Trevor 2020 Award to Ernst & Young while Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, as a wonderful duel discussed the angst of being 14 (“I was flat-chested growing up…actually, I’m still flat-chested but who cares because now I have money!”) while presenting the Trevor Courage Award to three very deserving youth. Lastly, figure skater Johnny Weir gave an introduction like no other for the always-humorous Robin Williams who kept the audience on the floor laughing.
Actor John Larroquette had the honor of presenting the Trevor Hero Award to Daniel Radcliffe for his outstanding work in raising awareness and support for the leading national organization which provides crisis and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth. An award that “recognizes a person who serves as an inspiration to sexual minority youth and increases visibility and understanding of the LGBTQ community”, Daniel Radcliffe expressed his thanks in a standing-ovation worthy speech. “I hate any type of prejudice…You don’t have to be gay to be a supporter – you just have to be human…I meet people at the stage door [How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying] every night that thank me for what I’m doing with the Trevor Project.”
